The set for acoustic optimization of the room consists of seven ceiling panel components made from fibre-reinforced composite sandwich material, each of which is assembled from two half-shells. The sandwich core, made of rigid PET foam, is encased on the inside and outside by a GFRP cover layer. The underside is coated with a matt finish matching the colour of the concert hall ceiling.
During the development phase, keeping the component weight within specifications proved particularly challenging. The acoustic requirements dictated a minimum surface weight, whilst the structural integrity of the concert hall ceiling meant that a maximum weight could not be exceeded. Thanks to special stiffeners and the selection of an appropriate manufacturing process, these tight specifications were met.
